Filling Positions

Sometimes, many positions at an organization like a Christian school need to be filled quickly.

With Christian organizations, however, it can be harder than on average to find new Christian employees.

Christians,

Sometimes, much of the staff for a small organization can leave at once, and this is also true of Christian ones.  With Christian organizations, however, it can be harder than on average to find new Christian employees.  The temptation can be to hire people who have skill-based qualifications for a job such as a middle school math teacher position in a Christian school while paying less attention to their views on Christianity.

It needs to be said that someone who isn’t Christian can have views very similar to a Christian’s and can be a great hire for a Christian organization.  On the other hand, people also apply to jobs in Christian organizations who have antagonistic views of central Christian values.  Some of these people include those who say they are Christian.  Especially when almost an entire staff is being replaced, much of an organization may end up being staffed by people who feel antagonistic toward central elements of the Christian faith.

Consider a Christian school, for example, where the teachers and the principal who have recently been hired are all licensed as educators. However, many of them also have antagonistic views of a number of Christian ideas.  Since the school is both immediately run by and staffed by members with these views, they may be able to collaborate to create some policies and a degree of an atmosphere that go against the Christian values of the church or other parent organization behind the school.   This is why it is imperative to try to find people with the right hearts and not only the right skill-based qualifications that fit a job in a Christian organization even in situations where many positions need to be filled quickly.
